I survived...

... an entire week without a registrar! For some reason, the RMO support unit decided to give my registrar leave without having any cover! Most of the week was okay - the only really nasty day was Tuseday which was out post acute day. We had 12 new patients including two who needed lumbar punctures and another patient who crashed badly. The rest of the time, the fear was mostly psychological and my consultant was really nice and easy to contact if I had any problems.

Sometimes I really wonder about how the hospital actually manages to function. I had a patient who neede an urgent test - the patinet was sitting in the room waiting for the test; the techs who do the test were sitting in their work area doing nothing. I went to see what was going on and the only thing holding up was that the orderly was too busy to bring the patient over! In the end I took the patient over myself... it was the only way to get the stupid test done! SO STUPID!

In other things happening in the world... is it just me or is that TVOne ad really annoying? The one where they play the song Light Surrounding You and they have tons of people shining torchlights into the sky. For a country which claims to be really green and environmentally friendly, it really does promote energy wasting behaviours. Not only are they using precious and expensive hydro generated power, but they're also creating a huge waste of batteries which are difficult to dispose of and result in huge amounts of toxic waste. All of this occurring soon after Sydney went to the effort of turning OFF all of its lights to raise awareness of the need to use less energy. What's worse - I used to like that song but now it rings in my head all day...

In happier news, congratulations Mi2 on getting your learners!!! After all these years you finally got it!!!!!! Now you can finally start using those L plates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

here's a thought....start selling electricity to OZ. ;) this coming from a shrewd Msian.

i guess one doesnt realize there is a problem till one feels the direct impact of it which is usually too late by then. one example, how long have they been on about the global warming and how many actually listened and did something about it? not till recently did they went "uh oh". but i guess better now than never.

our generation....waiting for the world to change....stop waiting. do something!

sorry mikie..you are not the only one being frustrated. ;)

Re: energy...
Totally... I hate being paranoid, but it frustrates me that people dont notice what little things they could do to help...
